Firewire upload speeds?

My new laptop has a firewire 400 input, my cardreader is USB 2, is it worth the money to upgrade to a firewire reader? How much faster will downloads actually Be? Thanks

If you import thousands of photos at a sitting then firewire is the best way to go. If you have external storage needs for storage I would highly recommend FW or eSATA though.

If you do a search on google "Firewire vs USB 2.0" you'll get tons of hits.

I recently purchased an expresscard to CF adapter for my Macbook Pro and it's pretty darn quick. Everyone says it's way faster than firewire. One things for certain, it's faster than USB 2.

Is the FW 400 a 4 pin or 8 pin? FW readers require power which the 4 pin ports do not supply.

Get the Lexar USB UDMA reader if that is the case for your laptop. I have one and use it for downloading from secure digital cards on my computer and laptop.

FW400 is both 4 pin and 6 pin.
FW800 is 9 pin.
