While the composition could have been better, I do like the close up shots of the snakes head. How close were you? In any event an interesting capture. It is worth noting that Cotton Mouths are notoriously very aggressive snakes. They have been know to go after what they would consider intruders. We were in a canoe one time and had one swim over 70' from where it was resting to attack the side of our canoe.

I was within 3 feet, when those head shots were taken. Staying out of striking distance but staying aware. This guy was not real aggressive but was not wanting to give ground easily.

If I had not seen what it was I would have run over him by accident, and that I would not have wanted to do. Entire encounter could not have been 2 minutes.


Just an "ole dog" trying to learn "new tricks"! helpful advice is always welcome!!
