Paintball Photography, Protection?

I've been playing paintball for a few years and know my way around a field. I know how to avoid being hit and where the action is, and I'm looking to step away from the guns for a while and step behind the camera.

Protection-wise, I plan on using a lens hood and a filter to protect my lens from splatter and minimize the chances of a hit, but I feel like 1 filter isn't enough to stop a hit. Would using 2 filters on top of each other ruin my IQ?

Also, since I'm on a limited budget, what would you recommend for overall camera protection? Underwater casings are way out of my price range.

Filters will not stop a paintball when a paintball hits it is just going to break the thin filter and scratch up your front element.

Luke is right. Filters give you a false sense of protection. Ive seen front elements ruined from filters due to impact. I have also been hit square center in the front element on my 70-200 f/2.8 and a hand full of cheaper lenses with no damage.
