This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #216".

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This game will end Wednesday September 2nd at NOON CST

*awe* my 4 goblins first day of Kindergarten and I blew out the their happy backpack photo's, woah is me... FIX THEM! ;) (no really I did fix them, lets see how YOU fix them better than I did) :p

I guess I will give it a go:

PSE6:
4 duplicate layers with multiply blend mode to get the exposure back down. Colors were starting to posterize due to blown highlights so I converted to Black and white with the portrait preset. Sharpened and then cropped to portrait orientation to get rid of needless frame.

Photoscape:
Contrast, Agfa film simulation and frame

Opened in camera raw and recovered lost hightlights and increased black/contrast then opened in CS3
Duplicated background
Converted to LAB mode and adjusted levels
New layer fill 50% grey and paint the fence a bit to warm it up. Also darkened flesh tones which were too light
Brushed their teeth a bit whiter and eye catchlights
High pass filter sharpened and cropped.
Darkened border using rectangular marquee and levels

adjusted the temp(for what i wanted)
recovery slider, blacks
upped vibrance lower saturation, upped conrast, played with red, orange, yellow in HSL
little NR, little sharpen

Nuts, I missed the deadline for this one (sorry Lore). I've been having major computer crashes (Firefox locking up when Outlook is open) requiring a re-boot. I've been tearing my hair out over it, and haven't accomplished a bloody thing in the last 48 hrs.

Nice entries everyone

tkbslc - I ♥ B&W originally its the way I wanted to go w/ this quick snapshot before we headed out, the crop is nice ( I cropped mine to tight ) I really like it.

NigelD - Color with this one in jpg form had to be really tough, unfortunately on my screen anyway this looks pretty saturated & I'm not too keen on the border, altough great job in bringing out the details I blew out :D

brennasg - this edit, their skin although looks abit jaundeced, I REALLY dig the coloring overall, its different & I'd almost set that as a preset to use & I feel this is the cleanest edit over all...

so... 1, welcome back & 2, B&A #215 goes to brennasg!

Well Done you 3, I look forward to 216

& BTW, here is a smaller version of what I shared with my family & friends that day, course I got to play with the RAW version...

nice job, I was impressed with how brennasg was able to get the colors back. I could not - hence the B&W

& Chris, I'm pretty sad you didnt take my Goblin comment & run with it and turn my kids into goblins, it'd be appropriate with them being Halloween babies n all ;) they ARE my goblins :D

*sigh* but I guess I'll deal with the fact that you had computer trouble :p

Usually the contests run for 72 hrs, but no big deal.

No, I was going to play nice in fact. I had started work on your son in the right hand side of the photo, and had altered his hand and arm so that he was holding the Backyard Bunny you posted in B&A 169(?). You know, give the kids a pet bunny.

Oh well,, I'm on the wife's machine right now, as I'm backing up my system for a REFORMAT! Grrrr! It's gonna take a day just to get the bloody thing back. :(
