Finally got out and put my new 50D to the test. I participated in a natural disaster training exercise in Odawara, Japan. Bad part, I wore a shirt with buttons down the from, which ended up scratching the center button of the wheel and some of the smaller buttons under the LCD. LCD wasn't scratched because I placed one of those LCD plastic film screen protectors on it. I know I can't keep it new forever. I did get some good shots. It also rained on the camera and I had quite a bit of dust blown all over it. It came through like a champ. I thought the 50D didn't have weather sealing on it?

Take Care and May God Bless!

I used to have a Minota (cant remember the model, this was like 30 years ago), i went out on a boat trip in Egypt one day, it was really really hot, so i placed the camera under a towel, i thought the film was going to melt it was that hot!, anyway, someguy who must have weighed like 20+ stone sat on my towel, and crunched my camera, snapped my big new lens right off, then when he stood up the lens rolled off the seat and into the sea for good measure. Thankfully we wernt in deep water and i was able to dive down and get it, anyway after getting it home, 20 minutes in the garage with a screw driver bending the metal back into place the camera worked perfectly again, and carried on working perfectly for another 20 odd years... dont make em like they used to!

One reason I went to the Digital Rapids strap. I can't stand neck straps.

I've managed to get a bunch of fine scratches on the LCD cover on the back of my 40D from using one of the Black Rapid straps. The camera hangs with the LCD against my leg and the constant rubbing has scratched the plastic. I can still use the LCD with no difficulty so I'm not worried about it and I'm not one to resell my gear so that's not an issue either.

Don't worry about LCD cover scratches...you can always replace it, easily. just order it from canon for about $15 and use a suction cup to remove the old one.

Had no idea this was possible! You mean putting that little $4 plastic film that degrades my view of the LCD is really a waste of time, because all I'm protecting is a $15 cover?!?! Thanks for the tip.

Have to admit that R2 works best with a larger lens, that way the lens is pointing backwards, and the back of my arm rests on the LCD. If I have a smaller lens (like my 35/2) then the camera has a tendency to rotate, and the LCD comes in contact with my pants, etc.
