and fwiw, our kids couldn't date til they were 16 and that was only group dates until they were 18. S'way it was.

Our kids can't date till they are 16. But 'group activities' are ok when they are 15. Josh has a girlfriend, but they aren't allowed to formally date till they are 16.

I like your idea better. Maybe I change rules.
I wonder if Marian and Colton would mind.

my kids could go to group stuff (youth group activities, concerts etc) they just couldn't "date" there...had to be a group thing. (often we were chaperones of large group things anyway OR drove the getaway car) But the one on one dating thing...just saves a lot of grief if they wait. The rest of the world tries to get your kids to grow up too quickly...we figured we'd just be the "brake pedal".

I remember one time a commercial came on tv and said "do you know where your kids are?" Tif said out loud to the tv...'if you are MY MOM you do'

anyway, I'm not putting my values/standards on anyone. I was a really strict parent. Tried to be totally involved in their lives but I wasn't liberal. Some of my best friends (twin included) were extremely liberal parents. All our kids seemed to turn out okay. So I think we just each need to parent according to our consciences.

so let me get this straight Cat. Pre-marital sex is OK, they just can't go to formal dances before 16. Right?

Have you ever seen "10 Things I Hate About You" ?
FANTASTIC movie, a modern movie based (loosely) on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew.

A couple teenage girls, their single dad is a gynecologist. Talk about STRICT.
Anyway, he has a couple lines in that movie that closely resemble what I said.

Haven't seen it.

That's because you're a Meany Head. Thank you for finally admitting it.

Knowing what I know now I agree with everything you parents are saying. But I sure am glad I didn't know that then.
