The home check for Layla was PERFECT. There is not one thing I would change about the family who adopted her. When we got there tonight, Layla was TOTALLY in her element, and unbelievably happy.

What an incredible first post to read after a fantastic day here. My eyes are leaking down my cheeks.

why do ya'll go to bed so early? i'm up until like 2.

I get up at 5ish even on weekends and I'm aged like a fine wine.:D

neil_r wrote in post #8669736 (external link)
I hit your problem a few years ago, in that to read I had to use reading glasses as well as my contacts, it was such a shlep that I gave up on the lenses and just wore varifocal glasses for a few years but then.....

I now wear extended varifocal lenses !

The lens in my left (master eye) sorts out the distance the one in my right sorts out the close focus and my brain sorts the whole thing out so it is seamless. Not only that one pair goes in and they stay in day and night for a month.

Have a word with your optometrist.

Did that for a couple years, we call it monofocal. Worked great, but; as I continue to age, like a fine wine;), they can't get the two focal lengths to work right. One of our owners is from Germany and complains about the poor quality in U.S. eye lenses. I wonder if there is more to it after reading your good results.

It's a sad one here.

It's school fair weekend...which is like homecoming except we also have a mini county fair.

But, last night there was a terrible house fire. The house was destroyed and a little boy about 8 years old was killed as well as an older gentleman...not sure if it was his dad.

Corey was on the call. He's fine mentally but is worried about some of the younger firemen who have never had to deal with this before.

It really puts a shadow on this weekend.

sevillafox wrote in post #8671551 (external link)
Thanks everyone for the thoughts this way. Corey is doing ok with it. some of the other guys aren't doing as well. Apparently it was a little girl and her dad. One of the guys on the fire department is also a janitor at the school and sees the girl every day...and saw her just yesterday with her dad. He was one of the ones that helped carry the bodies out. He's pretty upset. And, I guess one of the other guys...one of the younger ones....tripped as he was helping carry the little girl out and really messed up his elbow trying not to drop her. Some of them are meeting with the state fire inspector in a few minutes. They also only ran the lights on the trucks in the parade instead of also using the sirens...out of respect for the situation. It's just a yucky situation all around.

I'm so very sorry to hear that. :( Sending out prayers for the family and for the firefighters.

and fwiw, our kids couldn't date til they were 16 and that was only group dates until they were 18. S'way it was.

I actually think that's a great rule, and just might snag it!

Permagrin wrote in post #8673020 (external link)
I remember one time a commercial came on tv and said "do you know where your kids are?" Tif said out loud to the tv...'if you are MY MOM you do'
anyway, I'm not putting my values/standards on anyone. I was a really strict parent. Tried to be totally involved in their lives but I wasn't liberal. Some of my best friends (twin included) were extremely liberal parents. All our kids seemed to turn out okay. So I think we just each need to parent according to our consciences.

HAHA to the commercial, and yeah...I don't really do liberal parenting either.

eddarr wrote in post #8673187 (external link)
Oh you can't call that a failure. Kids do stuff. That's how they become their own person. She lived through it and seems to be mostly normal. You couldn't have screwed up to much.

Pretty much....and having spent a little bit of time with her...yeah, she's fairly normal. ;)

Permagrin wrote in post #8673302 (external link)
you know, I wonder if I'll ever get to a place where I'll feel comfortable posting a new wedding thread in the wedding forum. It's not like they have been bad (definitely not like before) but I've only posted one thread over there and had Mo take it down. I just don't feel comfortable.

Yeah, I don't love posting there either. Thankfully when I did for my sister's wedding, I was too dumb to realize how brutal they can be.

sevillafox wrote in post #8673330 (external link)

Fabulous day here.

Started with an early morning, 7:30ish walk with Baxter and early morning swim for him. There is a boat ramp between two city parks into the river. After we got home we got the garage cleaned out. Bax supervised from the bed of Curt's truck, he loved it there.

Also pressure washed the outside of the garage to prep it for painting, hopefully I'll get the primer on tomorrow, though rain is forecast later in the day. Finished the day with a couple of rib eye steaks, marinated in Jack Danial's and Balsamic vinegar, grilled, pasta salad on the side with tomatoes and pesto.

We also had lunch at Aiden's favorite restaurant and shared some time on the patio with Curt's Aunt and Uncle. It was their pressure washer we borrowed. Productive yet rather easy going day. And perfect weather.
