The Navy and Coast Guard history lesson is over for tonight. Time for me to go. Gates open at 0700 but practice doesn't start until 8...

^^^Yeah, that... Yikes!!! Was the cause of the accident ever determined?

The OOD of the Belknap was found guilty of gross negligence. They had been along our starboard side and were tasked with assuming the role of plane guard as we shifted to flight operations. Instead of slowing down and allowing us to pass...then falling into position off the port quarter, the OOD decided to speed up, pass in front of us, execute a 180 degree turn, pass down our port side, make a second 180 degree turn and assume position. It would have worked had he done a 180 degree turn instead of a 200 degree turn.

Nighters folks.

Dan, are you in the first picture? It was taken in 1984.
http://en.wikipedia.org …File:USCG_Citrus-1984.jpg (external link)

Yeah.... I was on the Citrus from 1982 to 1988. In this pic, I'm on the helm.... again. If you look all the way up top, on the flying bridge, you'll see a guy standing there. That's an old friend of mine: Patrick McAndrews, aka PattyMac. We were supposed to clear the decks as the helo flew by for the photo op, but PattyMac was the lookout.... he had to be there.

There's another guy on the starboard bridge wing working the azimuth. I think that's QM2 Anjain working on a nav fix.

The distinctive A-frame was a part of the old Buoy Tender equipment and really served no purpose. It was later removed in the yards during a pretty extensive refit.

I have to show you a shot. Tif took it. It's something I would have NEVER thought of doing (the bride's parents are the ones in the foreground). I love it! It just chokes me up. *proud of offspring moment*

LISA nice job on the shot. I've been working on the reception shots from a couple weeks ago. Just got them converted to run through Noise Ninja, too tired to continue. Will finish in the morning.

 Oops. Some people don't understand that ships don't maneuver like sports cars....

Oh yeah. It was our press release photo for years, even after the aforementioned refit. After that three months in the yards, the ship hardly looked the same, but we still used that shot.

To be fair, this is the first time I've seen in online.

I was hoping to find a copy of our standard press release photo online. It was taken during a hurricane north of Scapa Flow. The shot is from dead head on...and features a wave breaking over the flight deck.
