thanks. I'm not nervous. Just tired.

Truth be known, I kept thinking "after these weddings I'll have the fall and winter to recuperate, take care of the dog and figure out what I'm going to do". But I came back to the opportunity of 3 shoots and now suddenly maybe a 4th in the midst of them.

I feel like I'm out of my depth. I know I can do the shoots but I want each one to be so special for the person I'm shooting. I want them to not only have their photos but remember the event as something really cool (or special or whatever). Maybe I put too much of me into it but I can't help myself.

I'm having some minor trouble with my epilepsy again. It's just the stresses of life but it's hard on my health. But I need to work. It's a fact of life anymore.

Sometimes I think a 9-5 job would be less stressful because you get to leave your work at work. At least most people do. For me, if I'm not working, I'm spending my time on templates or websites or learning techniques (along with taking care of an injured dog, a crazy dog and trying to keep my life together). I don't know when to stop...so my days are long and it always feels like spinning wheels.

So it's not that I'm nervous...just stretched very thin. And feeling it.

Why is it that the people who should be confident in their own abilities never are and those that have no right to be just dive in regardless of their lack of talent?

Look at your body of work, look at the feedback and interactions with clients that you have had, and develop a confidence "mantra" along the lines of "I am really good at this, he only thing I have to worry about is the fact that Dan is here" and you will be fine.

If push comes to shove we all have enough confidence in your ability so we will channel a collective transfer.

(((((((((((((((permie)))))))))))))))

Nothing really to say to that....I feel your pain....without the health issues.

Honestly, do the best you can.....don't put SO much into it that it burns you out on the seniors....they're fickle at best and you'll get your feelings hurt no doubt. JMHO from dealing with kids all the time.

Really everyone has been great. But I do know what you mean. My last senior bugged out w/o paying & taking the photos.. Now I charge up front.

Well played

Good evening Pea

LOL, that keeps making me think of the Princess and the Pea...Dan keeps calling me princess. Kinda made me giggle since Paula and I got to have a long convo last night, lol!

G'MAE campers!!

We are off to the park for a BBQ, yay!!

Glad to see you Chief, the bar isn't the same when you are gone for too long.

Enjoy, and I agree with you about Chief!

G'morning.

I'm feeling all pro today.
Not really...though my gear is "pro" . And I have an actual shoot later. (I'm being facetious...just in case anyone misses it) But I feel as out of my depth as possible.
Plus I woke up at 5:45. On a day where I could sleep in because Dan didn't have to work...how ironic.

Permie....

So it's not that I'm nervous...just stretched very thin. And feeling it.

I'm sorry about your health. However, am I going to have to smack you? You need to download David Garrett's album from iTunes and chill for a little. RELAX with the seniors...don't try to be "like" them...be yourself (and let Dan be himself, lol!), but at the same time, be interested in them, don't be too worried if they don't want to strike up a convo...it seems mine get really nervous before they come in and don't tell me till later, lol!

And actually....they might really get a kick out of Dan sketching their portrait, too. Inject some humor into it for them, you know? But above all, RELAX! I have the same problem though, I want to take the time with each and every one. I've found that if I can relax myself a little...start with the more traditional stuff, tell them you want to knock it out of the way right away so you can get to the fun stuff. You're going to do FABULOUSLY.

puddlepirate44 wrote in post #8583378 (external link)
yes. But I prefer to sketch the client. My shots tend to come out sharper that way.

Do it! :D I'll bet they'd love it! Don't be afraid to hold stuff for Permie, and help her change out lenses and such as well. Assistants are sooooooo valuable imo. BOTH of you....RELAX!

I've been finding that the retainer (1/2 their session fee) and then doing in person proofing and not letting them take the proofs with them (they can view them online after that if they want to see them) really helps. That being said, I haven't gotten orders from 2 of them yet.

Looks like Canon has maybe finally hit a home run of their own with this camera. Heck, comparing images in Imaging Resource, it almost does as good as the 5DMkII and smokes the D300. Only the D700 and D3 do better.

Pete you are going to have to forgive me...but your photo...while very nice, cracks me up...in the foreground, you seem to have some of the items the Chief and Neil were polishing over in RRTP. If there were any tortillas laying around I would be very worried. ;)

It would probably take me a long time to wade through RRTP to work out the connection here, but my imagination is running riot here...
