Lucky I guess. My 100-400 has been back twice and both times they adjusted it with some improvement. My 24-70 was always a bit soft until I dropped it and sent it to canon. It came back sharper. Honestly I have been frustrated as of late with the sharpness of my Canon stuff. I recently shot some hummers. I used the 5D, 1DsII, and 30D. All were on a tripod with the same settings. I found my 30D to produce the sharpest images and my 1Ds distinctly softer than the other 2 bodies with both the 70-200 and 100-400.

Z, were you on aiservo?
That was my biggest complaint (well 2nd biggest) with my M3. (the first complaint was that it didn't track whites well)

I will have to look but I don't remember. I have wondered about AI servo. I often feel those shots are the softest but have not done a good test.

wow, we just got a weather alert...supposedly over the next two days it's supposed to rain an inch.

Since we've had practically no real rain for months this is going to make all the drivers (this happens every year) forget how to drive in rain...and voila, lots of accidents. I think I'll stay home.

Off to home for me! YAY! We should have floor in the new basement so the boys can check it out.

I hope everyone is tired. I'm coming down with something and could really use a nap.

Laters!

LMAO!

I'm pretty sure she's 17. She's Corey's cousin and I don't remember there being a big to-do for her 18th so she must be 17.

In that case, I'm sure that Zane finds this photo well done with good lighting and composition. ;)

The 100-400 and 24-70 were my two worst lenses. Both went back twice and both time it helped. The 24-70 is very nice now but it wasn't until I got the 50D that I was able to get L quality out of the 100-400. I was seriously considering switching until the 50D.

It's the end of the world. :) This week in Chi-town has been spectacular. Daytime highs of 72 and 48 at night and no rain. The week before we were getting1 to 3 inches a day all week long.

hmmm has anyone done any in camera micro adjustments?

I had it set up (used the rulers ect) yesterday got the focus adjusted but today at normal portrait distance or farther, now I'm having back focusing issues. It's almost like it's AF is right (micro adjusted) for close things but for normal things it doesn't need to be adjusted.

any advice?

I have never had to adjust a lens, I have never noticed any front back or side focusing issues. I have never had a soft lens or one that hunts. The question is am I just very lucky or am I too blind or accepting to notice?

I don't know what it is, but I suffer from the same affliction. All of my lenses have been sharp right out of the box, too.

No... Wait. I must qualify that! All of my Canon lenses have been sharp right out of the box. I've had some duds, but they were all third-party (Tamron, Tokina and a Promaster 19mm lens that gave me one shot I loved but the rest were crap).

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.
