UGH!!!!

In all this time still no one has answered my question. Why is this better than a 1DMkIIn?

It just is Aravena. :) I'm gonna sell off my 1D MK III and get this little guy. ;)

Looks like it's time to sell the 50D...oh and the grip too.

I'm not going to jump on this until we get more real world reviews. I upgrade every other year on my sports equipment, so the 40D is up for sale if the 7D is worth anything. I'm not giving up my FF 5D2 for anything, so the 7D doesn't compete with that.

It's about time Canon listens to their customers. I can't wait to see what they put in the 1D line. Forget about getting a Leica. :)

Same here. I wait for every other upgrade so whatever was after the 50D I get. Here's the thing, I only waited...idk. I got a 40D for $650 2 months after the 50D came out 'cause someone had to have the latest. I think this is worth the wait until w/e they call the new one.

What are we looking at for batteries in this thing?
Same as the 50D? 5D2?

I thought you had a 5D aravena. Did you sell it? I think the 7D will be a fine camera.

No, no 5D. not yet. I'm in a pickle actually...kind of. I need to plan out my gear. My g/f needs a camera though she's getting a job so maybe I won't be nice and she can pick up her own several hundred 30D or something. My 20D will go IR and whatever I get now will be my main with the 40D is a second.

Question is, with all these great cameras dropping in price (used) what to get? How great is the 7D over the 5D and 1DMkIIn which can be had around the same price?

But man, it's using the new batteries that the 5D2 uses, with no support for the BP-511's. Gonna be a pricey upgrade from the 50D...everything's gotta go.

I think the real choice is whether you want FF or the 1.6 crop body. The truth is, my 5D2 is wonderful, but I like the fps on the 40D right now for sports. I shoot every weekend for my sons and that is why I upgrade every other year for sports. I may wait 6 months from now for the 7D and that would be it. I usually give away the old camera to a needy friend. I save up and that's the key. Don't just buy because it's new.

I just can't get over this :) This just looks so bad.. 5 years of 1.6x crop development after the 5D was announced and this is it? Could we see a similar sample with a shot like this taken with 40D or 50D? Are those cameras even worse?

We should compare cameras with shots produced in the same conditions. Below are 100% crops of JPGs of the 7D and the 50D at ISO6400, produced with the cameras normal noise reduction. It is apparent the 7D has less noise reduction and compression artifacts, but not by much. In the next post the same is done with the 5DMK2.

You won't regret getting the 5D MK I. It was my first FF camera and I regret ever selling it. The 5D MK I is a simple camera and all the doo-dads of the 5D MK II don't matter to me. I would wait to see what the 7D has to offer. You never know you might buy one. :)

I never do. And I understand the difference between FF. I'd probably stay away from the 1DMkIIn simply 'cause of the 1.3 factor. The 5D would be so much better for weddings and I'd still have the 40D for sports. I like the idea of the 7D but there's nothing screaming BUY ME with good reason. Even if it was at normal xxD price. Rather get lenses.

If I had $1700 right now, I'd get a 70-200 F2.8 IS first! :D

But these are pre-production shots. How can you compare it even though the 7D isn't out yet. You guys get all ruffled so quickly. LOL!
