I was wondering why Canon insists on putting the 28-135 IS as a kit lens.

I wonder the same, maybe they have a gazillion of them that they need to get rid of. This camera would kit SO nicely with the 17-55 f/2.8 IS.

You'd be surprised. I'm a soccer mom and since I've been shooting I've seen a lot more moms and dads spending the money and learning the gear. But I'm in VA. Soccer is king for any kid under 14.

Suzy, my new wife supports my photography, but I wish she would support it as much as you do! lol

yeah, I don't quite understand canon's fascination with the 28-135 for crop bodies either.

I was wondering why Canon insists on putting the 28-135 IS as a kit lens. It is not the best lens out there and people think IS performs miracles. I've had a lot of soccer moms asking me why their 28-135 isn't very fast. I let them borrow my 70-200 2.8 IS on their Canon's and they always ask, "How much is that white lens again?" The price is high, but the 28-135 doesn't make the 8fps perfect.

Plus 28mm is so terrible as an only lens on a APS-C body at 45mm equivalent. Even the cheapest compacts start at 38mm equivalent. Why not at least throw them a bone and include the 17-85 as standard.

Since this is slightly off topic, I will let the thread go back to the 7D announcement and comments. But, Mario, I like sharing the fun.

I am more excited about Canon trying to increase the AF points as N*kon really has a way of doing that, making even the most inexpensive DSLRs produce amazingly sharp images.

It's easy. It has range and IS, and since it is an old lens Canon is making a fortune! :p

If the 15-85 has good IQ that should be the kit lens, not the 28-135.

Whoo hooo.... Can't wait for the release of this. I pre-ordered mine online last night at about 12:05. I'm not too worried about the noise since I'm upgrading from an XTi.

Since I'm used to a crop sensor thats fine with me as well... It would probably be different if I had a FF.

hummm... now to see what the wife has to say about it.. :-o

If you consider the price of the 15-85, it would only increase the price by a few hundred dollars, which is not that much to ask if first time DSLR buyers are expecting wonderful results.

Wow! It might be time to save up and put my XTi to rest. The 7d seems like a total stud.
