It's only due late october in Canada...this sucks!

I was just told "first week of October". I'm calling to place my order this afternoon.

jwcdds have you ever thought about modding the adjustable overhead lamp to mount a L bracket to so that you can just swing the camera down and take a photo of the patients mouth while having proper lighting?

Use LV and a cable release and your set! :D

-Eric-

The overhead lamp would be sitting on the patient's lap as it's unable to handle the extra weight.

yup. It's my first macro lens, so I will need to learn a lot! It's not that easy.

Oh and AF is fast, really! As long as you set it in the 0.5mm - Infinity.
To the other owners: is your IS also that quied? With my 24-105 I hear a buzzing sound, but with this lens I hear as good as nothing.

Ooh and it is a very light lens.

Might be wishful thinking but I would assume Canon took into account that this lens might be used for insect macros. So it would make sense that they may have taken extra steps to make the IS more quiet as to not startle the subjects. But that's just mere speculation on my part. :D

did you take that eggshell shot. looks really cool. would like to see a bigger version. (not to divert from this thread, i will comment on the lens now:D)

yes there was another user here that did a little video clip and it was crazy quiet and compared with the 135 (which was kinda loud)..unless you are talking about the actual is mechanism. then i know what you mean. from time to time, the 28-135 lens will "buzz" but not all the time.

i wonder if the 70-200 2.8 is "buzzes" from time to time? is it any quieter than any other IS (the non cheap lens IS's)?

There isn't the buzz that I hear from the 24-105, 70-200 or 100-400.

But I can hear a tick-like sound in some situations at minimum distance. I guess the sound is from the in-out shake suppression since I haven't heard it when increasing the focus distance.

good to hear that! I was doubting if there was actually IS in the system .
It was a bright sunny day over here, so IS wasn't necessary...

Tomorrow I go flower and insect hunting

I would've linked it from my pbase account. Except pbase has been down for like months now (I jest but it has been at least 3 days).

I saw the 11% Adorama Bing cash back, and I just couldn't refuse. I just ordered this. After the cash back and selling my current 100mm non-L macro, I ought to wind up paying just about $350 or so for this guy. I can't wait!
