Official: EF-S 15-85 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

IS on 15mm!! That's definitely an interesting thing that Cannon is pulling out. This is going to be the widest IS out there(don't quote me on that though...). But i want to see the comparison to a 17-55mm IS f2.8 though...

Apparently there is going to be a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 VC (Tamron's IS) for ~$700. Another lens to consider in the future.

Nice, another overpriced lens. What happened to the sub $500 crop lenses?

The only thing I wish Canon did with this (without a review, anyway) is take the extra step and make it f/3.5-4.5. Then it effectively a constant f/4 lens, which would make it an ideal midrange zoom.

Well, no one's said they're discontinuing the original...and there's still the Sigma 18-50 macro.

at 800$ its more than what i would pay for an ef-s, although the focal length is almost perfect for my needs, are there any more new lenses by canon ?

for me is great the focal range ... but the price is to high (

maybe the price will decrease after few mounths ...

I was all hyped about this lens. The build quality looks to be near that of the current 17-85....It's price is outrageous. I wouldn't pay more than 450 for it.

WAY TOO MUCH!!! No fast AF? $400 more for VC? Boo!!! or $100 more I can get a used 17-55.

If the optics are good and the distortion at 15mm is low I will seriously be considering picking one up once the price comes down a few hundred dollars.

i think Canon should have considered making a constant F4 lens at that price, 800$ is way up there very close to the 24-105 IS L in price and the 17-55IS
I hope the price is more down to earth when it hits the stores , I like the range and the fact that is USM with IS

Apparently Canon wasn't listening. I wanted this to be an EF lens and a little faster, you know EF 15-85mm f/4! Still nothing for the 1D folks!

I would imagine their customer base has probably 50 1.6x users for every 1 APS-H user. They gotta go where the money is. Making it 1.3x compatible and that much faster would make it more expensive than the 24-105, wouldn't it?

This one WITH the EFS 18-135, be interesting to see what the used market shakes everything out to be priced in a couple months after reviews etc...

I'm sure they do. But considering the 1.3 cameras are 3-5 times as expensive and the lenses purchased by this group likely FAR outweighs the 1.6 croppers it would make sense to make SOMETHING for them! But I digress. I haven't had an optimal lens for this camera yet, why do I need one now!?!?

$800 for non L build? Yikes!
