So does anyone here actually own one yet and have some words to say about it? I'm mainly interested in the performance vs. the 17-55.

I'm not being lazy, but I blew this month's download limit so I'm being charged 15c per extra MB. So yeah, can't really surf too many pages, especially ones with pics, so I was hoping someone could offer a summary on what's known about this lens so far. Thanks fellas.

Thanks for sharing those links, but no 17-55 vs 15-85 comparison. :-(

Anyone aware of any head-to-head 17-55/15-85 comparisons on the net?

It's probably still too early for that. Don't worry, we will start seeing such comparisons soon enough.

I got my new EFS 15-85mm this week at Best Buy, been taking a few shots with it on my 50D. Seems pretty sharp and good color.
What do you think? Nothing fancy, just having fun with it:D

I hate the fact you guys are getting yours at best buy :P

I'm still not sure..not a question of desire really..i want it [Heck i spent today trying other options and ruling them out..by other options, the Sigma 17-70 was about it] its just availability/finances holding me back at the moment..

Its out now at most stores

likely your local best buy

For the record I was curious, So i checked Best Buys near all my friends in other states, Shockingly, all of them could easily go and get one at a Best Buy near them, But the closest one to me is 4 hours away in Canton, OH....

I smell a conspiracy..There isnt one in Pennsylvania at all, and unless i go all the way to NYC there isnt one in a NY Best Buy...

Sorry to hear. However, knowing BestBuy, the ones near you will probably be getting stock in a couple of days.

Not trying to rub it in, but Aden Camera in Toronto just got their shipment yesterday (Fri Oct 16). They now have the lenses, but not the 7D/15-85 kits yet.

As a matter of interest, why did you rule out the Sigma 17-70? It's my current walkaround, but I'll probably replace it with this new Canon for reasons of focal length and USM. I'm always interested in other views, however.

I'm wondering if this lens might make a good one-lens solution for our upcoming Disney trip. I was contemplating either the 17-55 or 24-105, but this one seems to cover a nicer focal range. The slow aperture is the only thing holding me back at this point.

I suggest sell a few of your exisitng lenses and purchase the new 15-85mm and also get the Sigma 30mm F1.4

With your crop body these will suit all your needs at Disney including your low-light shots.

Regards & have Fun ! :D
