Official: EF-S 15-85 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

Hi guys. Just thought i'd pop in and thank you all for your hard work on the forums. I'm now a proud owner of a 7D + 15-85 IS USM and it was down to your feedback on here that made me 100% sure of my decision.

So far i'm loving it. This lens is a beast and the 7D well...what can we say. Fabulous.

I miss my 15-85. They offered me a new Canon 24-70 f/2.8 which is hard to pass by. So i took it. I will be getting this 15-85 again. Such a flexible all in one travel and walk around lens. IQ of this lens and color is one of the best out there....

I'm getting vignetting with a B+W F-Pro CP at 15mm.

I'm also seeing more chromatic aberration (CA) in the upper corners than I'd like to for $800.

I'm also curious how this lens work w/ non-slim UV filter. I'm considering the Hoya UV HMC, anyone tried it w/ this lens? It would be a big plus if the lens works fine w/ the regular filter as the slimmer one cost almost twice as much.

Get a Hoya HD polarizer, they are slim and still allow the stock lens cap to be put on. No vignetting. I have one for sale as we speak!

Thanks to Kenji pimping, whoring this lens i went and got it today, and i have got to say bloody fantastic, I have a kiss x3/500d/rebel xxx (what ever). both batteries are now empty and i will post pics when they I have some life. Still expensive in Japan but never mind that, i live here after all.

The AF is really bloody quick and the colour is great, and it is as sharp as a razor

I have to try this lens on my dad's new T1i/500D now..

OMFG just got the batteries back to life and I am so shocked at how f****** sharp this lens is after putting the images om my PC, will up load a couple tomorrow as it getting late here. I took loads today to test the lens (most rubbish but a few nice shots) now i understand why Kenji has been banging on about this lens!!

Vignetting over and above what you get with a naked lens? Interesting, did not see it on my lens.

I am neither an engineer or mathematician (or Doctor). However, assuming the specific lens hood designed for this lens (EW-78E) does not in itself create any additional vignetting than it would also follow that if the filter (an additional 7mm) to be used is below the lowest valley between the petals on the hood (14mm) than the filter itself can't create any additional vignetting since the hood protrudes 7mm past the filter. Or am I missing something?

The hood has a much larger diameter than a filter so it is not in the field of view.

This lens is not prone to any filter vignetting unless you start stacking THREE filters. Here are some 15mm samples:

72mm Kenko CPL + 72-77 step-up ring + 77mm Hoya HD CPL

I agree...stacking 3 filters would be approaching 21mm...well beyond the 14mm of the lens hood.

Yeah.. I read that post, but was just wondering if different brand has different thickness since I don't see any reference using Hoya filter. I guess it should be safe unless I plan on stacking the filter, which I won't.
