Official: EF-S 15-85 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

It will need to be sharper than the 17-55IS if its going to feed those tiny pixelsites on the 7D. The preview shots Ive seen of the 7D with the 17-55IS look really soft....but only when pixel peeping. But would it be sharper than an upscaled 50D? I doubt it with the current lenses out.

When is this coming out in the UK and how much will it cost £-wise ?

This lens looks perfect for me, currently have the 18-55 IS kit lens and really feel the need for a bit more length on either end. Was going to go for the 17-85 but it doesn't seem like there's too many fans out there.
Will wait for reviews etc. but am very interested!

from what I see on warehouse express you can preorder them .... and they cost only double in UK !!! well... let's see who it's going to pay £529 for the 18-135 and £849 for the 15-85 !!

on other sites they quote the same pricw as in the US ... only that with the £ sign ... so this one for £799 ... that's crazy!

not really sure what that means. are you saying this is ebay like cheap company, are you saying the hood is a knock off, are you saying that is expensive? what are you saying? i don't know how to comment on that.

$40 is not expensive or cheap..just retail style price. im most certain these are canon products.

there is the BG-E7 grip...about $205 american.

...or put into perspective, a hunk of genuine Canon plastic (aka Hood), is approx half the price of a Canon Nifty Fifty

Not quite sure how they justify that (but then again, I guess they use genuine Canon air in their extenders too)

Yeah but the Dark Side lenses are more expensive... so even if their hoods are cheaper, your total cost in the end is... the same

More in some cases..

This lens in a kit with a 7D sounds very interesting. I guess I'll have to wait and see some detailed reviews and comparisons before I make my decision.

OMG this lens in Lithuania (EU) is 2600LTU (£650)...the 17-55 f2.8 is about 3400LTU (£850) ...now that is interesting...so basically it means that for the money that you spend in UK buying 15-85, you can buy 17-55 f2.8 in Lithuania....that's probably the first time ever that something is cheaper in Lithuania than in UK
