ok - I'm experiencing some difficulties triggering outdoors. This is the setup:

580ex2 on camera triggering an off camera 430ex attached to a softbox (usually placed to camera side and forward a little way.

The problem comes with getting line of sight outdoors... If I mount the 430 on the softbox with the sensor facing forward (towards the box) it's obviosuly facing away from the camera and the sensory is also blocked by the box. If I swivel it round to the sensor faces backwards (away from box) this is good if box is infront of the camera but gets less reliable as it moves fuirther to camera side. To camera side It's better to swivel the 430 so the sensor faces to the side towards camera. However, this then needs to be re adjusted for evey camera/flash position so is a pain!

I was wondering... is there any mileage in mounting the flash with the sensor facing the softbox and then mounting small a parabolic shape mirror/ reflector on the back of the softbox to reflect the infrared from the 580 back onto the 430. In theory this would give better performance for a variety of the off camera positions.

So - would it work ina reality. Anyone tried it? Are there any commercial prodeucts which do this or do I have to make it myself? If so any ideas of the best material? I guess I could test the theory with some tin foil on card....

Any thoughs/experiences would be very welcome.

cheers

Geoff
