Given all the hoopla over the 7D, what do you think this will do to the 5D pricing wise? I am likely going to be in the market for a 5D mk1 and will be watching the prices closely to time my purchase accordingly. Thank you.

They're completely different cameras. I really don't imagine there is going to be much competition between them. The XXD cameras are another story.

I don't think XXd pricing will change as a result. 1d-III's may drop a bit though, especially used. I know I never shoot at 10fps(usually 6), and the new AF sounds interesting.

Most likely it will continue to drive the used price of the 5d higher. The 5d2 is well out of many people's price range. The 5d classic is also affordable enough to play around with FF and see if you like it. Then, if you don't, you can sell it and not lose much money. The classic also can allow many people to keep their cropped bodies as well.

The 50D will drop. It will drop used that is. As the supply goes up and the demand settles, owners will have to drop their price to move the body. I had to lower the price on my 40D $25 to sell it a week ago.

This.. I don't see many selling their 5dII for a 7d.. That would be a downgrade for 90% of 5dII owners. As it is 40d pricing just kissed the $500-600 mark...

+1 to that. a 5dmkII owners would only get a 7d as a compliment, not a replacement

7d IS the 60d.

I noticed a lot of 40d and 50ds hit fredmiranda last night and this morning. By a lot, I mean about 8-10. There are typically 1-2 of them at any given time, but a lot more this morning.

I am also glad I moved my T1i two weeks ago. I've got to that camera is nearly worthless now. If you are serious about movies, the 7D is a HUGE leap forward. Not even close. If you're not interested in movies, there's the XSi. What niche does the T1i satisfy? Someone who wants tons of megapixels but sub-par video? No wonder Canon's been dumping them through Costco.

I was hoping the 7D was FF, as I want a 5D mki to try ff, but it's still a bit expensive for me. Still, you never know. There's only so many dollars, and the 7D is a pretty good value proposition if you need more fps or movies.

Yep, I also believe the 7D is the replacement of the xxD line. The 50D as a whole flopped and the 7D came in to save the day and bridge the gap between the xxD and 1d lines.

Shoot, look how many people still used their 30d and 40d after the 50d was announced, and people change bodies on here like we change clothes. I'm a firm believer on saying that the 40D was probably the best camera in the existence of the xxD line.

You will see the used price of the 5d classic increase a bit as well. It's the perfect camera and price point for people to jump in and try FF. If they don't like it they can sell it and not lose much money. The classic also allows many to have a FF and 1.6 equivalent body as well. With the 5d2, it's a stretch for most and they have to sell a body and a lens to afford the swap. That's apparent on what I've seen for sale when people are jumping to the 5d2.

completely different cameras. I do think no one should buy a 50D though unless it's $999 and the 7D is $1500...

Yea the last detrimental blow to the 5D Mark I was the 5D Mark II... Unless Canon releases a very cheap 1Ds, or a full frame 7D I think the 5D is safe until the 5D Mark III is released someday.

I disagree. The 50d can do anything the 40d can do, and better. Lower noise, higher resolution, microadjustment, better LCD, better live view, better build quality. Whether or not these improvements are worth it might be another story, but it's certainly silly to say the 40d is better from a techincal standpoint.
