Columbian Ground Squirrel (Spermophilus columbianus)
Manning Park Resort Lodge
Manning Provinical Park, BC, Canada

The Columbian Ground Squirrel is found in the Northwestern United States and South Western Canada (Eliot 1991). Specifically, they are found in parts of Montana, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington in the United States. In Canada, they are found largely in British Columbia and on the western edges of Alberta.

Great series! I haven' tbeen to Manning since forever.probably 25 years or better! Used to camp there as a teen:cool: Always looked for the bear cages....

They used to have a real huge problem with bears and campers in the 70's and 80's. Garbage bears to be sure because of the holiday folks, but they would tend to try and get into your tent with you!

Used to hike up at Lighting and FLash lakes.even then you had to watch your step, the lakes at that time were filled with fish....bears had a ball.

Not much in the lakes THESE days. some small rainbows mostly. Interestingly, Manning park is an area where I've never seen a bear. That being said, I usually visit it when it's December or January... not much but COLD and snow then ;) (and whiskey jacks of course)
