With all of the big time tech in the mid range cameras is Canon going to drop a bomb on us with the 1D updates? As it stands I cant see why anyone would buy the big bodies right now when you can get more camera for less money. I would imagine they have to have an update in the works for their pro shooters. What do you think the future of the pro bodies will be? Will they come sooner or later?

Please explain the more camera for less money statement? The 7D won't compete with the 1D or 1Ds series at all.

The 7D is not "more camera" than either the 1DMkIII or 1DsMkIII.

It's (potentially) a very, very good camera but it still ain't a 1-series.

no doubt!

And from what I'm reading on the Goldbraith site, the zone AF system is not looking to be all that it's cracked up to be. Though he did test with a beta unit.

I'd love to see an update to the 1ds mark ii N. That was a nice camera.

What happened to the 1.3x crops?

Current 1DMkIII is APS-H (1.3x)

When the 1Dm4 comes out, my assumptions based on what we have in today's lineups are:
1) Back LCD resolution same as 50D, 5Dm2, 7D
2) Dual digic4 processors
3) Configurable buttons a la 7D
4) 1.3 crop
5) No pop-up flash unit to continue pro-level weather sealing (which means no flash command like 7D)

I'm not convinced Canon will put movie mode on the new body, but it's clearly here to stay.
