I know tigers and polar bears will eat people, but what else? I'm not really talking about bite and release (grizzlies, many sharks, etc.), but animals that actually hunt and eat people.

Do wolves ever do that? Hyenas?

Thank you. bw!

I am told a jaguar will hunt a man. Not sure if it eats the entire person and am not going into a rain forest to find out.

Panthers, Mountain lions have been known to stalk people.

Sharks taste their prey first, if they like it they go in for the kill. Thats the bite and release thing.

Hyenas?

Our guide in Botswana told us about a hyena dragging a small child out of a campsite in Moremi once.

[QUOTE=MikeFairbanks;8572492]I know tigers and polar bears will eat people, but what else?quote]

Thats such a misconcept! Tigers do not consider humans as their natural prey. In fact they've been known to walk away if not challenged or provocated by humans. Most of the times when humans have been attacked is for self defense, or due to either surprising the animal or getting too close to a tigress with cubs. I've been close enough to tigers in the wild, in an open top vehicle...they just ignore us...unless you act stupid and tease the animal. All it demands is due respect.

Cheers

It's my understanding that the puma (cougar) and a rogue grizzly bear will also stalk and kill people.

Cape Buffalo eat people? That's strange . . . I thought they were herbivores.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Well...IMHO being killed and being eaten end up with the same amount of deadness... :)

But the OP's question was about being both killed and eaten. Just making sure we stay on track with what the OP wanted to know.

I stayed on a farm in Botswana and asked the owner about Hyenas & he said if you are walking alone ...one will follow you to see if you are injured but a pack will kill/eat a human, it happens over there. He warned me about walking around photographing and told me how to move tactically if i come across a lion but he said the most dangerous was the Cape Buffalo (even though they dont eat humans). He said a buffalo will kill you because you are there.
