Well, I've noticed that a lot of folks here post pictures of pets that they've lost. I think it's kind of therapeutic, so I thought I'd start a thread for that and see where it goes. Post any pictures of your dear, gone-but-not-forgotten pets.

Here's Murray, without a doubt the best dog I've ever had. I found him as a stray and took him home. He enriched our lives for almost 13 years before heart disease took him. We had no idea what breed (or breeds) he was, but he sure was beautiful and loving. We lost him last Christmas. I'm certain I'll never see a dog like him again.

You're right Gibbit1, these threads are kind of therapeutic, but they can also be very hard to look at. :(

This was Sheena, my old Alaskan Malamute. I lost her to cancer of the spleen at the age of twelve and a half years on July 16, 2009. She was one of the best friends I've ever had and I sorely miss her gentle presence at my side.

I picked her up at the local SPCA in late '01. She was a wreck when I brought her home, she had been seized from an abusive owner and was absolutely terrified of everyone and everything. It took over a year of hard work and TLC to get her to act like a normal dog, but it was worth every single minute. She was simply the best dog I've ever had the pleasure of sharing my life with.

Goodbye you old furball. I miss you...

I lost my beloved Golden retriever, Samson on January 11, 2009 at 5:30pm. He died instantly from an undiagnosed ruptured hemangiosarcoma. He was 10yrs old. He filled my heart with love. By far the best dog that has ever owned me.

Thanks for the posts, everyone. I know this is hard for most people, including me, but I thought it might help. If there are more of you out there that would like to post, please do so.

Here is my Owen. I lost him March 26th, 2009. He was only four years old.. One day I was out at the park with him... he was running happily, and then the next minute he collapsed and never got back up :( Loosing him completely turned my world upside down.. he was my heart and soul.

A blanket with my favourite photo on it of him.

Every time someone tells me how sharp my photos are, I assume that it isn't a very interesting photograph. If it were, they would have more to say. ~Author Unknown

he was an avid board game player, any and every time we played we set him up with his own piece and he had a turn. He always stayed and watched the whole game, and often won!

Great pics and stories, everyone. In a way, I think that we who have delved into photography a bit more than others have it a little easier when a pet passes on. We at least have a better chance of having a beautiful photograph to remind us of the character and personality of our lost pets.

His name was Paddington. He was part armadillo in that he would jump vertically. Once he almost made it out of his cage. He passed away quickly this last spring at around 3 1/2 y.o. The first photo is one I took of him a couple weeks before he died. I was playing with my G9 and my then-new 430EX. The second was taken Christmas day last year with the G9 and built-in flash.

Paddy was different. We didn't always get along, but mostly we did. He was family. He liked all kinds of food, including pecans. He *loved* apple.

My wife's old fat cat, Gordon:

His liver failed and he was sick and dieing. We could not stand seeing him hurt any longer, so I held him close as the vet gave him peace. His pain ended, but mine lasted for a long time afterward. He was my friend and I miss him.

Just lost one of my kittens, Georgie, just 6 months old the two days ago day. Too bad I couldn't say goodbye as I am away on business (I and the Georgie stay with family). Haven't had the chance to take nice pics of him yet.

This thread makes me choke up.
