I was at the local camera shop yesterday and attatched a canon 28-135mm IS to my camera. I turned IS on and played around.

I thought I remember reading in another thread that you can either See or hear the IS working. Is this correct, because i noticed neither?

thanks
PJ

Yes, you can hear a faint buzz as soon as you press the shutter half way down: the gyros starting spinning. They will stop if you don't shoot within a couple of seconds.

Yes, it is a faint sound. To me, it is a little more like a humming sound, but very quiet.

Also, if you half-press the shutter button, you may see the stabilized lens effect snapping the viewfinder image a little back and forth as you swing the camera around.

To hear the gyrating motors put the camera and lens up to your ear. Press and hold shutter release half way (to achieve focus). You will hear the faint sound of a motor running in the lense. The IS is compensating for your movement.

Once again, I appreciate the info you all have provided me with.

Now I have to make the decision between this and the tamaron 28-75mm!

thanks
PJ
