I think I'd like to purchase a 17-55mm and eventually a 70-200 IS and have those as my only two. Is giving up all the ones I own right now worth it?

When I need a really good tack sharp portrait any of the three will work. Walking around town or taking shots at a festival, the 24-70 is a great tool. For sports, its either the 85mm (basketball) or the 70/200 f/2.8L IS for football or basketball. Canon 5D2 > 35L-85L-135L

And then eventually a 10-22 or Tokina 11-16. There's not much you CAN'T handle with that setup. -Lloyd
