Awww, what a sweetie. Glad to hear she is on the mend and fingers crossed that she gets back to her normal self in a few months.
We had a mniature doxie named Peabuddy who was jet black. When he was about 11 weeks old, he ran under my car when I was pulling into the garage... I never saw him. Anyways, the accident broke his back. I was beyond heartsick. But within minutes we had him at the vet and he got some IV steroids and was put on bedrest for a few weeks. He grew up to be with us for 12 years and was the sweetest tempered dog in the world. Arthritis in his back legs got so painful we had to put him to sleep. I cried in the vet's parking lot for 45 minutes before I could drive home.
Little dogs can be pretty tough.
When we lived in Pennsylvania, Lois and I owned a house a couple miles from her mother's. One Saturday, Lois was out in the yard with Moufette, our white Toy Poodle. Her mom, Irene, was visiting, and was in the house doing something. I was at Irene's house, painting her front door for her.
Anyway, Lois had Moufette on a leash, and she was just enjoying the air. She spotted a couple weeds she wanted to pull, so she hooked his leash on the lock button of the passenger-side door of her mom's car. While Lois was carrying a handful of weeds to the trash can in the back of the house, Mom got in her car and drove away with poor Moufy dangling from his leash.
When Irene pulled up in front of her house (where I was painting the front door), I saw the dog dragging alongside. Lois, in the meantime, noticed the car and dog were gone, and took off running barefoot to her mom's house. She messed up her feet pretty badly, and was barely able to walk for days.
Anyway, as soon as I realized it was the dog, I bundled him up in my shirt, and drove him in my car immediately to the vet who (thankfully) took him right away. Irene found Lois running down the street, and the two of them drove to the vet's. By the time they arrived, Mouf was sitting on an examination table, and was already sitting up wondering what the hell had just happened.
Bottom line....he was very banged up. He had a cracked pelvis, and his paws were very torn up. The vet cleaned him up as best he could, then gave us a stern lecture about responsibility with pets. He kept him there for a couple hours, but finally sent Moufette home with us later in the afternoon after he was satisfied the dog was not going into shock. He was in a lot of pain, and Lois and I took turns sitting up with him all night for about a week. He was too sore to lay down, so we held him upright sandwiched between two pillows.
I am so happy Hale is recovering so well. She is an absolutely beautiful pup, and she seems to be very sweet. Like everyone, I was very worried for a while.
