Excellent shot. Love the colors!

I know the feeling, we have an influx of Doves here to, but I have to admit. I've grown quite fond of them. They're beautiful. :)

We all do it Norman! Great detail and based on the size of the doves that's a huge feeder :)

Great shot Norman. Too bad it took Canon 3 tries, when it should have been that sharp out of the boxes.

Now, get out and find some other birds to shoot. You've got the ultimate body and lens for it. :)

Still having some issues with smaller birds

What issues? Is it hunting a lot? There are some custom functions that need to be set to stop that.

Focusing issues Mitch, a bit tough on smaller birds... Checking those functions now... Thanks.. All functions are as you stated to me a few months ago.. Not so much hunting but getting a good focus on smaller birds at times...

After many days of trial and error with my 40D, trying to figure out the focus hunting problem, I ran on a page somewhere that described how to fix the problem. It was all new for the 40D, the 30D never had the problem. Here are my settings;

C. Fn I Exposure : #5 set to 1, all others set to 0.

C. Fn II Image : all set to 0

C. Fn III Auto focus/Drive : All set to 0 except #5, which is 2

C. Fn IV : Operation/Others : All set to 0

Try these and let me know if that got it. They have worked for other people. :)
