Well ok nobody is crying wolf here but I decided to take the 3 hour drive north today to the Haliburton Wolf Centre in Ontario and grab some photos of the wolf pack there. The pack is fairly small this year as the Alpha Female recently passed away giving birth to cubs whom also passed as well so this season has seen the introduction of a new Alpha Female and some hierarchy changes to the pack. I'm not entirely pleased with the outcome as I found the 40D to really struggle at higher ISO's dealing with the wolves going in and out of the shadows but here's some of the "keepers" from today.

1. Cedar one of Citka's siblings

Nice series, noise shouldn't be too obvious for 4x6 prints.

Nice series Scott. Were these with the 100-400?
I was last there three years ago so it's time for a revisit as I see Smudge has moved up the ladder. Ebony was the alpha male back in '06.

Yup these were all shot with the 100-400. I had the 70-200 with me but it just wasn't long enough as most of the wolves were hanging out in the shade at the top of the hill. Smudge overtook Ebony in 2007 as the Alpha Male but Ebony still remains quite dominant and aggressive :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

There's a few of these across North America here... one in Vancouver and another in Indiana that I am aware of as the Haliburton centre shares their cubs with those two other facilities when born.

It's my husband, Justin. You work at TMMC? He's in the North Weld Receiving. His Exploder, my ride is way cooler :)
