For this week's Macro DSLR Speed Challenge, the topic is:
"Backlit"

Simply have your subject backlit by the sun/light - otherwise the subject matter is wide open. Have fun :-)

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR camera
2. Lens - Any lens, or attachment that can give Macro photos (ex. extension tubes, bellows, macro filters, reverse mounted lens and of course a true macro lens.).
3. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
4. Size - Please see the Image posting rules.
5. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
6. Posting -
* ONE MACRO PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.
* Photo Name/Title in the message.
* Camera model & lens used in the message.
* Post brief Exif data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used in the message.
* Notes - anything you feel you need to explain.
7. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
8. Questions - Use PM
9. Have FUN!

One challenge every week, on the following schedule:

* New Topic - After winner is declared.
* Posting Starts - Right after topic is announced.
* Posting Ends - 9:00 PM Eastern Thursday, September 10th, 2009. Winner will be announced shortly thereafter.
* Winner from this competition decides the theme of the next one (and judges it for a winner) after this competition is closed.

I was walking back to my car after shooting a creek at sunrise in early August, when I found this picture glaring at me. The cat tails in the background where down in a ditch and this weed was close to the side of the road behind a gaurd rail, lit from behind by the morning sun. I was able to shoot slightly down on the weed while capturing the shadowed cat tails as background. It wasn't until I paired this image with the contest that I realized how lucky I was to capture this one.

Morning Arm(c)hair

IMAGE: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2583/3906873366_20548967e0_o.jpg

5D, 100mm Macro @ 1:1, f/16, ISO 100, 1/2s

I was reading in an armchair around 8AM and the sun came shining in the window and lit up my arm. I started looking at my arm hair, as it was sticking up more than usual. Sometimes inspiration comes in the weirdest ways :)

Ok sorry once again for the delay -- Maybe the short work week threw me off.

Gail -- Nicely done with the leaf, I love how the light reveals the leafs textures.

John -- Very cool shot and I really like the detail shining coming from on the right petal!

Baselerd -- Great job here - I love the silhouette and colors, I know you struggled to get a decent shutter speed here.

samueli -- Awesome capture - love the compostition and light falling on this plant, the spikes/hairs are just great.

badgerW -- Another very cool shot and great idea for this challenge, when I first looked I thought for sure it was carpet - love the DOF and detail in this shot :-)

Ok well I hate picking a winner out of this bunch as they are all great examples!

Samueli the win goes to you with Baselerd running a close second - Congrats and thanks everyone for your entries -- Well done all!

Thanks for the comments Monty and all! Everyone had nice entries. I particularly enjoyed the insect lamp. This was a fun topic.

Great shots, everyone, and congratulations, Samueli!
Badger, your take on the assignment was definitely different, and you're right. inspiration does come in the weirdest ways sometimes!

Sorry I missed out on this one. It was a great idea for a challenge, Chris. It's been a busy week for me. Maybe I'll post something up later just for fun. I had an idea the other day but never got around to shooting it.

I may be fascinated with volcanoes, but the name's Lisa.
