We had a wildlife emergency today here in the suburbs. I heard this big "wham!" upstairs. I ran to that room, looked out the window and saw a cloud of feathers blowing around, so I knew something had hit the window. I ran back down and it was a beautiful red-tailed hawk, now lying on its back on our patio. I'll skip the details, but I was afraid he was paralyzed or at least had a broken wing but, over about 45 minutes, he slowly got his act together and made his way up onto his feet. I'd go out every once and a while to see how he was doing and he progressively began to make eye contact and look around and start to move. Finally, he flew off (a little shaky) but went out over the trees so we had a happy ending.
I got some good shots of him during his recovery. If he'd died I was going to delete them!
