Has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

No?

Curses... Neither have I. I was hoping it was common.

Why?

Some worthless waste of life no good freeloading POS dirtball sack of monkey **** stole my gear! All of it except for a monopod and a cheapo tripod. I've been keeping an eye on CL and filed a police report with all serial numbers etc. It's gone. It's all gone.

However, I have hope.

My hope is that the ******* that did this uses the camera and it explodes, taking off all fingers and thumbs. With any good fortune, the explosion will somehow force glass from the lens backwards in to his head piercing both eyes and causing mild brain damage. I'd like to know that every time he is within 10 feet of a piece of electronic equipment, his new found brain damage causes him to wet his pants. I also hope he/she/they are rendered sterile so that they cannot reproduce and infect this world with more like them. If all of that is possible, then it might also be possible for said thief to suffer a lingering, painfully agonizing and hopefully embarassing condition for the remainder of his years.

Eh. It's a thought.

Either that or I find it all on CL and get to stab somebody in the eye with a rusty olive fork. That would make me feel much better, too. I'd really rather not go to jail though.

I hate thieves. There has GOT to be a special place in hell for thieves. There would be a place just like that if I were in charge.

All is not lost. Insurance helped with the majority of my financial loss. I've upgraded to a nicer body and one lens to get me by for a while. My wonderful girlfriend splurged on a lot of small accessories that really make a difference as an early birthday present. Heck, the camera shop gave me an extra Canon battery on the house.

I just had to vent.

It's time to get back to reading the manual while listening in the distance for the beautiful sound of an exploding XSi.

Have a wheelie nice day!

Wow that really sucks. I really need to consider getting insurance on my gear. I keep saying it but need to stop putting it off. It is a good think you have insurance! Was it stolen out of your vehicle?

I am actually looking at insurance that covers the gear whether it is stolen or I do something idiotic like drop it. I forget what the coverage is called now but my State Farm agent was telling me about it recently. Not too expensive either.

Be happy that it's just your gear and you weren't directly involved. I'd hate to be in a situation where I or some I knew could be emotionally or phyically harmed by someone just because they wanted a few bits of glass and electronics.

reneethomas-I have State Farm and they are FANTASTIC!!! My renters insurance policy covered this. After talking with the adjuster, he told me about a Personal Articles policy. That will cover damage from dropping it, spilling water on it, taking substandard photographs... Ok, maybe not the last one. I had coverage for that stuff through another policy but didn't ever use it. I'll be in touch with my State Farm agent on Tuesday to see about a Personal Article policy to cover my camera and some other things that might need additional or alternate coverage.

Pete-Let me first admit that my presence may not have stopped anything and my actions could very well have made things worse. I acknowlege that from a rational standpoint. That being said, I would have welcomed the opportunity to stop this. If someone wants to steal something of mine, I want a fair chance to protect it. Unfortunately, the real world doesn't work that way.

People these days are nuts and there is no telling how things may have unfolded if I were there.

I don't think it ever would have happened if I were around. At 6'6" and 260 pounds, I think said thief would have found an easier target. The emotional damage is done. Being the victim of a theft is hard for anyone to handle. It happened on Thursday morning and I'm still going through a million 'what if' scenarios. Some emotional damage was definitely done.

Now that it's over, I've got a better body, I can (slowly) start up a new collection of lenses that may better suit my needs and I am a bit wiser about personal property insurance options. It cost me a bit of money that I can't afford by any stretch and a lot of time. But I have a new body. Did I mention that? I've never owned a NEW body before!

Plus, I have a wonderful girlfriend that helped me gather and document all info needed for insurance when I wasn't in a healthy frame of mind. Not to mention, she coughed up a bit of money for some early birthday presents to go with the new body. I think I'm going to keep her. :D

I'd still like to hear that explosion off in the distance. :)

Have a wheelie nice day!

Unfortunately , even given your size, if the lowlife that stole your camera wanted it, he would still have got it.

Depending on what the thief wanted the stuff for (crackhead feeding addiction etc), they might just have been desperate enough to pull a knife on you or a gun.

Better to let your gear go and live a full and happy life than to fight and possibly get injured. Im 6'3 and 240lbs and although i wouldnt just hand it over, i wouldnt fight for it. Gear can be replaced, body parts/life cannot.

Your gear was insured (thankfully) and you now have better kit out of it so let it go. I know the frustration that you feel after being robbed ( my house was done a few years back which sparked a period of entirely sleepless nights and worries about the slightest noise late at night)

A very good reminder to those without insurance though! DONT put it off- get that insurance sorted NOW!

I bet if it did, some slimy lawyer would have you in court defending yourself.
