Is it possible to get a bad 50D body?

I ask because just recently, I purchased a new 50D, and after 2+ weeks of trials, shooting indoors, portraits, outdoors, scenery, animals & much more, I have noticed that even on low ISO speeds, such as 100, the images are coming out extremely noisy. I shoot only RAW, and use DPP to process after shooting, and I have never seen this type or amount of noise before.

I am upgrading from a Xti, and as of now, the Xti takes at least double the picture quality, so either I purchased a really good Xti, or a really bad 50D...

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Also, since I noticed how bad the images were, I have gone back to Canon's website to look for contact numbers, and I noticed that they are releasing the 7D in mid october, so no matter what the outcome is, I am returning the 50D and purchasing the 7D, I still would like to know if anyone has had a bad body before...

Thanks in advance,

Joey

I see from your gear list, you have many consumer lenses and the 100 macro. Can you take some images for us with that lens and compare it with the same settings on the Xti? That may be the true test here. I don't have a 50D, I have 2 camera bodies and they perform differently due to the size of the sensors, but mainly, it may be a better test to have another photographer look at the camera before giving up on it.

If you shoot an image at the highest ISO you have, and underexpose it just a touch, then push it in DPP, do you see banding?

If you do, then you do have a problem with the body.

(Other than that, I have no experience with bad bodies -- I say this because the last time I noticed around-the-clock poor ISO performance my MKIIN was, in fact, flawed)

Here's what I saw, and it was on 2 of every 3 shots -only- with two of my lenses, 100% or greater view.

There's too many variables. Are you under-exposing and pushing in post, maybe? That will make even ISO100 shots from any camera noisy.

Post some shots.

I refreshed my browser twice wondering why these shots were not showing.

I mean from joeyCes. There's no point me posting my shots. ;) and edited shots without EXIF are as much use as a chocolate teapot if you want to get to the truth.

if you exposoe correctly, noise will be at the minimum... so even if at iso 100 and you underexpose the image you will see noise that's with any camera.

Ya, no kidding! I had to scroll to the top to check who the OP was and my brain finally caught on:lol:

Well JC the people on this forum like helping but if you start a thread you really need to assume that photos will be a neccessary part in finding the solution. So bring em on!
