Just received my new 40D w/17-85 EFS lens! Very excited and, at first glance
it seems like a fine machine. My budget Konica-Minolta 5d went toes up with
the usual ccd failure that they, and many Sonys are afflicted with, so I spent
a couple weeks shopping Canon & Nikon, doing comparos, and the usual
hand wringing, and copped the 40D.

I have been shooting since I was 10ish, (circa 1957), and it's a marvelous
hobby, with some amazing work being done these days. I look forward to
perusing this forum and getting up to speed. I have the 10-22 lens in my
sight, if I can rationalize it in the RetiredBum's Budget.
Excellent forum with very good info and outstanding pics!
Best Regards,
David

Congrats! Don't let all of the 7D hoopla get to you. The 40D is a wonderful camera!

Stay away from this forum, especially the 'Equipment Talk' section. Otherwise, you'll have three bodies and six L lenses by next month.

Welcome. There are a lot of friendly people here, good information, help and thousands of beautiful images.

Congrats! Just got my 50D (Canon owner loyalty program, sent in my old 300D and $629.00 for a refurbished 50D) but from what I've read from the helpful folks here, I'd have pulled the trigger on a 40D without hesitation.

Even though I want a 7d or 5D II, I have a 40D and love it. You are going to have so much enjoyment with that camera. Canon had a real winner with that one.

Congrats, you picked a great camera.
I just sold my Nikon D700 and purchased a Canon 40D (again) as well.
I have owned cameras from every section of the Canon line up and the 40D is my favorite. The 10-22 is a great lens as well.

I never, Not once claimed to read your post...

Waited ages on it. But worth it.

Im picking up photography from where I left of a year ago with a Nikon.
I've found Canon to have much better everything. With what I could afford and etc.......

Cheerio. Enjoy the camera, and see you around :)

40D is a work horse, and still one of the better (overall) DSLRs out there IMO. Welcome to the fray.
