In NR better in the camera or on the PC?

Do you get better NR results by applying in-camera NR and during JPG rendering or by shooting RAW and applying NR on the computer?

At worst you are going to be able to achieve the same level in camera as you one would do on a computer. But more often than not shooting raw and removing noise on the computer will give you a better result.

I always use Raw and use NR (Nik software or Neat image) before sharpening..

My thought has always been that you get better NR in post rather than on-camera.

So when we see images of the new ____ camera and see how well it does on noise, aren't we usually seeing the JPG from the camera? If so, we're not really seeing how the sensor does with noise but are seeing the effect of on-board NR and sensor combined.

That makes me wonder how much better on noise are the newest breed of cameras when shooting in RAW mode.

Specifically, the 7D ...

I very rarely use NR..If I do, it's during post processing..More control this way..

I always recommend NR during post processing, much more control that way.

Imagenomic gives a lot of optional looks to the noise reduction.
Best to make the decision yourself in post.
