I'm not terribly into prop planes (short of the old Mustangs) but they were a heck of an act.

Wouldn't get me doing this.

Might as well add one of mine from today. (Unedited except for resizing) Wish we had blue skies today.

I saw others of yours (OP)'s and thought you wrote you used a 5D2 with 400mm + 1.4x. I was at the show Sunday, were you there that day? There was a guy with a large tripod and big Canon prime "parked" in the middle of pavement that I passed a couple of times.

I noticed most of your photos are a bit under exposed. I was shooting with my 5D and Bigma (handheld) in the VIP seats (best seats ever). Nearly all day I was using iso 800, EC +1 (unless the object was darker, which gave 1/2000 almost all day in Av mode, centerweighted averging metering, and all AF points in ai-servo and had only 1 slightly out of focus photo. I used EC +1 because of the hazy clouds and that even blue sky can cause under exposure in dSLRs.

I have to pull down the shadows and darks a bit in LR2, but it was a very good exposure to use EC +1. Only blown highlights for me are some very shiny chrome or specular highlights, and maybe the teeth of the warthog paint.

VIP seats were great, parachutists dropped in front of us and the Thunderbirds entered the area virtually directly over us and got a great photo nearly head-on of their entrance. For multi-plane Thunderbird photos, I had to zoom out as they got in front of me because 500mm was too close.

I was there Sunday, but was using the 100-400mm with the 5D Mark II.

I see you're from PA, so you drove in for the day to see the show? I've heard it draws people in from other states. I'm in the Cleveland area. It was well attended on Sunday.

Yup. I'm in W. PA, so it only took me about 2hrs. This is the second year I've been there. The only complaint I have is that it is so darn expensive. I was spoiled by the Pittsburgh Air Show which was free, however they didn't get enough funding for the show this year.

I drive to Mid-Ohio raceway as well, so I'm used to driving long distances.
