Very nice photos.
Your specimen seems pretty calm. Most of the ones I encounter live up to their name when the temps are over 75 degrees .

I bought a new camera. It's very advanced - you don't even need it. ~Steven Wright

Being a lifelong herp keeper/lover myself I know the secrets as well. I was merely saying they can be quite fast when warmed up.
For venomous I exploit their natural defense and use the bucket technique to get them to pose.

Yeah the Rough Green Snake is a sneaky little cuss.
When I target them I find a small creek or spring with lots of low hanging bushes at the edges. I then kneel in the creek and watch the bushes carefully for movement. Works like a charm.
Thus far it has proven a reliable and consistant way to find them versus hoping to stumble across one by chance.
Speaking of technique, I used the aforementioned bucket technique to help with posing this adult Black Racer during this session.

Nice! My uncle lives in Louisville, KY and some day I really should visit him. As I'm really big into herping, I'd love to poke around and see what's around. What are some of the snakes you find down there? Black Kingsnakes, Worm Snakes, Copperheads, etc?

It's great to see other folks interested in herping and finding these beautiful creatures. That racer is great, and I'd love to see some of those in person. Great shots, and cool finds. :)

the area i was in, jefferson memorial forest, you can find prairie kings, eastern milks, garters, black kings, black racers, black rats, dekay's, midland watersnakes, copperheads and "potentially" timber rattlesnakes.

and no it didn't chase me. i chased it. snakes don' t purposely chase humans.

Thanks for the info, bigcountry. I was recommended by another herper to hit that same spot if I ever make it down there. That's a very nice list!
