Hi All

I tried this in the Lens section but got no replies - can anyone help?

I wonder if anyone can give me some info or a link on the Macrolite Adaptor 67 to fit a MR14EX macro ringflash to the new macro lens. Also will it vignette the image? I am looking toward the new 100mm IS USM.
It seems the Canon macro ring lites are not very versatile when it comes to fitting various sized lenes.

Many thanks

As no one as the new lens yet I expect they don't know.

I presume it needs the adaptor because the lens front element is too large for the microlight fitting. The same is the case for the 180L, for that they say it may vignett at wide f-stops so it is probably the same for this lens. Might only be an issue if you are using a full frame camera.

Talking about the lens thread most in there seem to want the lens for portrate or (even more ludicrous indoor sports, as if IS is any much use for indoor sports; then they complaine it is f/2.8 and not f/2. None seem to want as a macro lens.

Not sure what they are smoking.

OK Lester
Yes the front lens thread is too large for the MR14EX - I was wondering where the Adaptor was obtainable from and if it would cause vignetting. I think the MR14EX could have been designed a bit more considerately especially as it ain't a cheap item.
I am using the 100mm macro at moment and just fancied the IS L version at some stage in the future.
Thanks for your comments.

The micro lights have been designed for use with the 100mm classic and the MP-e which long predate the new lens, you certainly won't want the flashes any bigger if working with bugs. All the other 5 macro lenses will need an adaptor.

Dont sweat about it, I use them permantly on my mp-e and 100mm so I can keep a protective filter fitted. I don't use it all the time on the 180mm but only because I can't put the lens cap on it.

I presume as it is specifically for the 100mm IS it will become available in the same time frame.

Right Lester
I had to get an adaptor so that I could fit a protective filter on the 100mm.
Just seems annoying that Canon didn't put more thought into their ring flash to make it easier to use on some of their other lenses though.

I suspect at the time the two macro flashes were designed a 58mm front element accommodated most likely macro lenses- after all no one expected IS in a macro lens; I presume it is the increase in angular coverage to accomodate the IS funtion that has caused the front element to grow.
