I've just seen a photo of the 7D with its grip over in this thread, https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=748806

:( that grip looks massive compared to the 350D grip that i'm looking to upgrade, so I have some concerns.

I tried the 1DsIII (I think the 1DMkIII is the same) at warehouseexpress back in May and I'm not sure if it's just me, but the portrait grip felt smaller than the grip on the 50D did, and much more comfortable to use.

Does anyone have a 1DMkIII and a 50D w/grip who can provide me some comparison thoughts?

The 7D is a redesigned 5D Mark II so that's what you want to ask for, rather than a 50D. The 7D will use the same BG-E6 as the 5D2 (I think it's the 6) rather than the BG-E2/N of the 50D.

7D will use the BG-E7. Adorama has it listed as of last night. B&H didn't have it on their website yet.

As for the grip size... It will be bulky as before. Reason being is the dual battery setup. So the feel would be closer to that of the 50D grip, and not that of the 1D bodies. The 1D has a much more streamlined (just longer) battery that slides into the build-in grip portion.
