Well a month ago or so I sold my XTI with the intent on putting the money towards Canon EOS 1D classic. I ended up having to use some of the money to pay some bills and unexpected emergencies too. Therefore Im trying to build it back up and get one. Well the past few weeks Ive been watching other cameras like the 20D, and the 10D, and even the Canon D60. I'm tired of not having a camera.
My choices are in this order....
1st choice- Canon 1D classic for the focus accuracy, and speed and the build quality, and the file size, and image quality. Great for sports.

2nd choice- Canon 20D i would lose 3 fps compared to the 1D,but would gain mp's and Have heard how good the 20D is all around, still alot of people still loyal to it.

3rd choice- Canon 10D which i would lose even more fps, but i have read alot about it and seen some real good shots with it too. so I think it could be a decent and capable camera too.

I like to shoot sports, and wildlife alot, and hope to do more when I do get back into photography. Im also thinking trying to do some portrait work down the road too. I want to know what you guys think. im probably just gettin impatient, but like I said earlier I'm tired of not having a camera around. Tell me what you guys think about it ok?
Grady

Of those three choices I would pick the 20D.

Think i will end up going for the 20D. Watched an auction on Ebay last friday it was being sold with the grip too. It went for $255 plus shipping. I thought that was pretty good price for it.

unsolicited 4th choice - save a few more bucks and get something newer, electronic technology has changed over the past several years

i honestly dont think that you can go wrong with a 20d, its everything that you need, just get that and some good glass and you are good to go for awhile. just my 2 cents.

4th or 5th or whatever suggestion of the 20D. This is coming from someone that has the 10D, and 1D,and others you see in my sig. The price difference now in the used market between the 10D and 20D is meaningless.

And the fps that you say your are giving up is also almost meaningless. It sounds sexy but most sports tog I talk with say it is way more important to frame properly and plan. I am shooting a 5 day horse show the end of this month where I may use it sparingly. However, focus accuracy is better on the 1D series and that is a consideration in sports. That's why I went with my 1D. You need to decide how important that is.

fyi, the batteries on the 1D suck, so add another $100 or so for a backup. It eats them FAST.

Can't go wrong with a 20D though. I've been toying with the idea of a D60 honestly. I had a 10D and never liked it because they toned down the colors etc when they added the other bells and whistles.

Spot metering, 2.5" LCD screen, larger buffer, ISO increments, Picture Styles. If all those float your boat, 30D > 20D.

the focus speed of the 1D is a big plus for it and thats one of the reasons i like it and was thinking of it. But I have read all over this site and others about it being a battery hog. Im on a super tight budget. Therefore its hard to save up fast for a camera and the newer models like the 30d, 40D, and the 50D just are not really with in reach. So do believe the 20D is the better choice, and try to build up with good glass around it to use. Cuz that will be next "to do" get good decent lenses on my budget. Hope to own some "L" glass but that will have to be down the road. Thanks for all the responses I do really appreciate all of them. Thanks again
Grady

Any camera is better than no camera.

If funds allow, I think the 20D is a big step up from the 10D. The 30D is even better but not enough to delay a purchase IMO.

I don't know enough about the 1D to rank it.
