Just upgraded to a 50d and am contemplating upgrading my 28-135 w/ a 24-105L. I've read alot of good things on this lens, but recently came accross a couple threads on another forum bemoaning this lens on crop cameras. Hmm... if I'm going to shell out L prices, I want to be sure the sharpness is going to be excellent on my 50d. Any thoughts from those using this lens on one of the xxd models? Thx.

I have a 50D and 40D and I use this lense 85% of the time and it always sits on one of the two great lense. If you get it you won't regret it.

It's a great lens. I have a 40d and use it all the time, sharpness is fine.

It's a great lens on any camera. If you need that range and the versatilty it covers, you can't go wrong. The size and weight make it a great everyday, go to lens. I used it on both a crop and FF for years.

Barso.
I use my 24-105 L IS on My 40D with wonderful results.
I use it more than my 17-55 f/2.8 IS.
Highly recommended.

I use this lens with my 50D most of the time, say 70% or so. Although it's not wide enough for some landscape, I either shoot in portrait frame and stich them or switch to 17-40.
It's a great lens to have for sure.

well generally people who bemoan this lens on a crop body are not happy with the wide end as it isn't "wide enough" for some. For others its great. So, if the range of the 28-135 suits your needs satisfactorily at present, then you will probably love the other advantages of the 24-105 (even on a crop!) I like mine!

Had this lens on my 40D about 99% of the time, it now spends about 80% of the time on my 1DIII.

Its a great lens and is pleanty sharp, its not as sharp as my 100mm Macro but it is sharper than other non-L zooms that I have used.

Its a great lens for any crop.

I recently bought this lens for my 50D and it has quickly become the standard walk-around lens.

I use this on my 40d after upgrading from the 17-85mm kit lens. I have to say the difference in image quality is really noticeable. It's a great lens and I solved the wide angle issue by getting the Sigma 10-20mm. I ended up buying a used 24-105L for an excellent price on Talk Photography. It's well worth looking around for them because a lot of them get split from 5d MkII packages.

It was the most useful lens I had on my 40D and the results were excellent. Should be even better on a 50D especially with microadjust.
