Yesterday, I tried out the G6 with a Lensmate 58mm adapter and Canon Circular Polarizer (which I bought from someone on eBay) at my son's baseball game. I shot mostly on the portrait and high speed shutter modes. All I can say is WOW! The colors are just beautiful and approach the saturation of Velvia 35 mm film. Now when I shoot outside on sunny days, I now know what setup to bring...

Here is a picture of one of the players brothers with his dog at the park...

As far as I know (and I could be wrong) a polarizer won't make any color difference in a shot like the above. The light reflecting off your subjects is polarized randomly, so the filter treats everything identically, and works out to an ND filter.

A polarizer is useful only if the light itself is polarized. There are two major categories: reflections (off glass or water) and blue sky (but only in a range of about 60-120 degrees from the sun).

All I want is a 10-2000 f/0.5L with no distortion that weighs 100 grams, fits in my pocket, and costs $300. Is that too much to ask?

Can't be sure myself, perhaps it's cut some reflections off the grass. There's a good article on using polarisers with "rangefinder-like" digitals here:

Whatever the colours are really lovely, it's well composed and it's a great example of DOF.

I think you are right, but I would wtill use a polarizer if there is a bright day outside, I maybe would add a UV filter on top of it too...;)

I'd agree to diagree, what you've got to remember is that a polarizer is used for either the colour of the sky and or cutting the reflection of light on metalic or semi shiny subjects. I had ago with my polarizer a few weeks ago but found that in the auto settings either av or whatever else auto i found that the camera, (G6) compensated too much so the effect was not that great so next time i will use it manual for a bit more control.......? We'll see?
