Lonely little Raccoon just laying on the ground watching people around him(or her). Wonder if it was feeling ill, as I have never seen a raccoon just lay down in front of me before. If it wasn't for their nature and prone to carry rabies, I would have LOVED to take this one home with me ;)

Very nice picture. They are still cute even if one did kill most of my chickens.

You should have called the animal shelter so they could come get it and check it out and return it to the wild where they are suppose to be . Possible this could have been someones pet at sometime or other since it had this behavior . Most time they would have hidden from you . Had you tried to pick it up you would have learned a BIG LESSON to not ever try that again , plus you would have to take shots unless the authorities could find it and test it for rabbies .

I'm curious if anyone can explain why my post in this thread asking if anybody knew if the raccoon was related in some way to the badger was deleted?

I'm at a loss to know why this happened and am still interested if anyone knows the answer.

I forget where I read it, but the supposedly the raccoon is more related to a bear than anything else. Weird eh?

Well I already knew that from when I was a kid, says me smugly;). I think there was a mention of it in Joy Adamsons Born Free.
