Any thoughts on the difference between the Tamron 14mm 2.8 lens and the Canon 14mm 2.8 lens? Is the Canon price different worth it? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have personally used the Tamron 14mm 2.8 and it is an amazing lens, very sharp. I used it on my 10D and was very pleased. Tamron is a great company, I have always been devoted to Canon, but ever since I bought my Tamron 28-75 2.8Di lens, my whole persepective has changed. Save the money, buy Tamron, besdies at such a wide angel, almost anything will work.

I'd buy the Canon, but Tamron offers a 6 year warranty.

Now why would the (good) Tokina 17/3.5 be better than either of the 14/2.8 lenses ???

Just curious, you might give some explanation (other than yourself hating Tamron).

Best regards,
Andy

Not many reviews around for either of these, though the Canon scores very badly at FM forum 5.8/10 from 9 reviews while the Tamron scores a 10 (must have been a faulty one to score so high   ) though this is only from one reviewer which would be insufficient for me!

The Tokina seems a safe enough bet. I have a Tokina 20-35mm f2.8 Pro which I am VERY happy with image wise and the build and AF speed both superb. Some complain about the pull/push MF/AF mechanism on the wide Tokina's but it's irrelevant if you always AF!

For all these, given scant user perspectives (other than for my 20-35mm which scores brilliantly, but is ignored because it's not a 'cool' lens to own  ) I would want to try a few test shots and check on a PC in the shop (if possible) or at home what results I got. I wouldn't bother with the Canon. Price of the Tokina is attractive and there was a SH one in the Marketplace recently!
