just for fun - here is the raw data of canon 70-200 L lens available tonight on eBay,

f2.8 L New = 8 Resale\used = 4
f4 New = 1 Resale\used = 8

and just for more fun
Sigma New = 4 Resale\used = 0

So use those numbers as you may, it does seem there are a higher number of used f4's out there being sold, but then again, there are probably a lot more f4s in general so the numbers probably don't mean a thing other then I can't sleep and there is nothing good on the tv.... cheers.

Another thing to take into consideration is resale value.

The Canon L lenses and primes are bought and sold on a 'regular' basis because they keep their value well (IMO).

If you buy a Sigma 24-70/2.8 and put it up for resale, you are lucky if you get half of your money back. For that reason, if I owned that lens, I'd most likely just let it sit in my lens bag (or keep it as backup) because I felt I was making a loss with selling it.

With an L lens, I have perfect confidence that I can buy it today and resell it tomorrow for 75% -100% of what I paid for if I desire to upgrade.

Best regards,
Andy
