I joined the L club today with the 24-70. Purchased from a fellow POTN member. Received it this morning and conveniently, my photography club has a photo shoot today around camps this evening. First impressions......WOW! <---- Pretty much sums it up :) My wallet is hurting less knowing that it was a great buy, and now I am off this evening to test it out and get some duck shots, if at all possible. Looks like the obsession will be continuing onward. Thanks to everyone for the all the help and feedback.

You're thinking 17-40mm f/4 L...the 17-55mm f/2.8 is just USM ;)

For some, considering the IQ, yes it is an "L" lens designed for a cropped body. I will be going fullframe within the year. I could not pass up getting the 24-70 with the great deal I got. I will be selling the 17-55 if all goes well within the next week of testing.

Please forgive me but when I first read the topic heading I thought you were announcing that you were after coming out of the closet...

Let me know if the IQ on the 17-55 is close to the 24-70L. I'm struggling with my next purchase. I want the 17-55 but wish it was an L!

I certainly will. I will be bringing both lenses with me to compare some shots. If all goes well, the 17-55 will be in the marketplace next week. I will post up some pics tonight for comparing. Now I am teetering on whether or not I should sell my Tokina 11-16 to fund a 24mm ts-e

If the L word was attached to that lens it would cost more than 1300 USD.

Congrats, You will be very happy with that lens. I have been for years. If I am taking only one lens this is it.

Good Luck and enjoy the lens.

I went out today with the club. I think it is a nice sharp copy, I am going through the pictures now and will post some up soon. My next lens will be (hopefully) a 24mm ts-e since I am an architecture student. The 24-70 felt great and nice focal length on the crop body. Definitely a heavy sucker thats for sure...it dwarfs my XSi. So far so good :D
