Just a few birds taken recently.

Here is a Steller's Jay - sometimes I feel like we're overrun with them, but they have their moments.

A wild turkey in my neighbor's yard - the lighting here was very harsh.

And finally some Cliff Swallows. These guys build their nests (one mouthful of mud at a time) under bridges and on cliff walls. They tend to build them out of direct sunlight, so the lighting was horrible. This was the best I could do, but they're such interesting birds, I thought I'd post them up anyhow.

Those Cliff Swllows are quite the engineers, aren't they. Nice captures all around.

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

The first one is outstanding! I really like it.

Very nice captures, all. The Stellars can be quite the comedians around a hanging bird feeder. They are loud and persistent but fun to watch.

Thanks for looking Skip. Yeah, I'm often amazed at what some of the more industrious birds will do to build nests.

Thanks Sandi. It's really all about light, isn't it? The light was great for the first shot, and really quite bad for the rest of them. Pretty much directly overhead and dappled for the turkey, and just plain lousy for the swallows. Oh well :D

Thanks John. I used a little trick for the turkey. Even though it was in my neighbor's yard, I got in my little hybrid car and drove up almost next to her. With the engine shut down, I used the window as a secondary camera rest. The car acts as a blind since the turkey would have been much more wary of a human form. She was pretty much ignoring the car.
