Do these produce the same results? If anyone has experience with these please chime in.

Softlighter II (external link) or Paul C. Buff PLM System (external link)?

The softlighter is supposed the act as a 3 in 1 tool. It's a shoot through, reflective, and brolly-box all in one. The softlighter is also known to eat up a lot of light so be weary of that if you're just using a single strobe.

The PLM has a different technology to it. It's body is specifically designed to shoot the light back straight out of the reflective surface. What this means is that you'll get a more directional light and less spread overall, as well as a little more efficiency from your lights since most of the light is being directly reflected instead of spread around a larger area like a normal reflector.

There is an optional diffuser for the PLM which will turn it into a brolly-box for more diffused/softbox look. The only thing I'm unsure of is if the PLM is specifically designed for monolight placement or if it will work with strobes as well.
