Swapped out lenses on my trusty 10D...pressed shutter button 1/2 way....focus....autofocus confirmation beeps...press shutter button down...NADA.

It seems as if I can focus but when the shutter button is pressed down/repeatedly no picture is taken.

Any idea how much the fix would be if sent to Canon?

Worst case scenario I move forward on another body...hehe.

try to take both batteries out the main battery and also the little battery for a bit and see if maybe that will completely reset it.

Have you reset all settings to the factory defaults?

Could be something as simple as the the shutter button contact not being made for the full press. Do you have a remote shutter release you could try? Or hook up to a computer with the EOS software installed and try a tethered shot.

Or try the self timer as a test.

Also... your sig says you have a grip - does that shutter release work? How about if you take the grip off?

if the grip is mounted then i'm putting my money on the grip causing it, especially if it's not a canon grip.

Instead of starting a new thread. I am having the exact same problem as the OP, I have narrowed it down to be the shutter release button itself. The button will actuate the shutter on occasion if I wiggle my finger around enough. As of late even the wiggle finger trick has not worked. I am able to actuate the shutter just fine by other means (remote, comp, etc...)

My question is, where can I find a replacement? I am very comfortable with working on this model as I have had to do so a few times already. I would like to find the whole shutter button assembly as opposed to going to radio shack and doing some very fine soldering on some very tiny connections.
So where is a good place to find Canon parts?
Thanks
Erik

Canon Service sells parts. They may be kind enough to look up part number for you, or you can probably find parts manual online for the part number.

Did you activated mode mirror lock up on CF.n function? Try reset your camera. Luck.

I tried to activate the mode mirror lock up. it still was basically unresponsive. I have not tried a reset however. I am a bit apprehensive that will help.

shutter operates 100% of the time with remote.
Shutter works 20% of the time with button.

Thanks.
