I am looking to buy the Canon 70-200 L IS f/4.
My local shop offered a trade for my lenses that I am not using much lately.

Canon 17-85 IS
Canon 28-135 IS
Canon 700-300 IS
and a few other kit lenses 18-55

I do like these lenses as a ""back up if neccessary"" thing for my XTi.
The lens I like most on the list is the 70-300 IS.

The total price for all the lenses is $700.00

This would leave a balance of $550.00 for a new 70-200 L IS f/4.

I have not looked into Craig's List or anything like that.

Just like your thoughts.

I will keep my current lens line up of
Canon 10-22
Canon 17-55 IS
Canon 24-105 L IS
canon 100-400 L IS

Thank You very much.

Have you considered selling the lenses in the PTON market place? This is also a great place to check prices for used equipment (along with dealers well known for used equipment like KEH).

This sounds like a good deal for your local shop. If I hadn't just purchased a 17-85 and (another) 70-300 within the past 10 days, I would offer to buy them from you.

I also vote to put them up for sale on here. I've had great luck buying gear here and won't hesitate to buy more.

As other's have said it sounds low. As you are purchasing a lens they should be able to do better.

Thanks for the feedback guys. You don't know the value unless you ask.
It's only worth what someone will pay for it.
I appreciate it.

Do a search in the classified section on this forum and you will get a good idea of what those lenses are really worth.

$700 isn't "terrible" for a local shop, but I'm sure you could get a couple hundred bucks more, maybe even $1000. After all they want to sell those used lenses and make a profit.
