Some friends of ours had an old 3.5 x 4.5" print of an deceased relative that was badly damaged. The photo was held together on the back with adhesive tape and it had some faint fingerprints on it.

I scanned it in at 600 dpi and about 2 hours later here is what I managed to do with PS. I kinda like it in grey scale but think I might two tone it again.

Looks decent on the paper damage but the dark areas are too dark compared to the original - you're losing detail most noticeably in the face. And the white areas maybe a little too bright.
